Berlusconi says Putin was ‘pressured’ into invading Ukraine to put ‘decent people’ in government

Italian politician Silvio Berlusconi said Putin was “pressured by the Russian population, his party, his ministers, to participate in this special operation.”

Italian deputy and communications tycoon Silvio Berlusconi said Russian President Vladimir Putin was “pressured” to invade Ukraine in order to “replace the Zelensky government with a government of decent people.”

“Putin found himself in a really difficult and dramatic situation,” the Forza Italia leader told public television. RAI.

Berlusconi is a candidate for the legislative elections where he is running with the favorite coalition, together with the extreme right.

The Italian politician visited Crimea after the annexation of this province by Russia in 2014 and highlighted the “real friendship” he had with Putin, whom he invited on several occasions to his private mansion on the island of Sardinia.

According to Berlusconi, Putin was “pressured by the Russian population, his party, his ministers, to participate in this special operation.”

“Russian troops were to enter Ukraine, reach kyiv in a week, replace the Zelensky government with a government of decent people, and return in a week,” he said.

Berlusconi’s statements generated all kinds of reactions, for which he then replied that he considers any war to be “unjustifiable” and reaffirmed his support for NATO, the European Union and the United States.
