The circus of “referendums” in the occupied territories

“Referendums” on joining Russia began on Friday in four Ukrainian territories controlled by Russia and pro-Moscow forces. The West condemns them as illegitimate and a precondition for the illegal annexation of these territories, reports Reuters.

On Tuesday, Russian-appointed leaders announced their intention to hold the vote, a challenge to the West that could turn into a violent escalation of war. The results are seen as predetermined and favorable to annexation, and Ukraine and its allies have made it clear that they will not recognize the results.

Voting in Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhia regions, which account for about 15 percent. Ukrainian territories, will be held from Friday to Tuesday.

Mariupol mayor adviser Petro Andriushchenko said the alleged “referendum” was like a circus, if not for people armed with automatic weapons.

“People are arrested in the streets and forced to vote. We could call the whole thing a circus if it weren’t for the individuals armed with automatic weapons. Tragi-comedy of a burlesque nature”, underlined P. Andriušenka.

It is announced that people from Crimea and the Russian Rostov region were brought to the referendum in Kherson, reports the movement “Zovta strička”. This is how the show is set up, as if most people want to join Russia.

The head of the military-civilian administration of the Luhansk region, Serhijus Haidajus, told how the occupiers launched “choiceless elections” in the occupied territory of the region.

According to him, they have closed the exits of the cities, they do not let people go out. And voting supposedly in “organized places in home territories” really looks like this: “Filling out some paperwork in kitchens, apartments and courtyards. It seems very strange. There is no trace of privacy So far, there is no information on what the so-called commissions look like and whether their members are armed.”

According to S. Haidajus, the occupants walk around the houses only because they want to check if there are men, they are looking for cannon fodder.

“I would like to recall that responsibility is provided for the organization and participation in a pseudo-referendum. All those who contributed to it will be punished,” stressed S. Gaidajus.

The Security Service of Ukraine seized documents regulating the organization of a fake “referendum” in the Zaporizhia region. They list more than a thousand so-called Russian siloviki to be included in “protection”: units of the Russian National Guard, Russian Armed Forces Police, Russian Military Police and Russian Emergencies Ministry.

In addition, the Security Council of Ukraine received a list of 390 collaborators – they agreed to lead the so-called territorial districts.
