Palestinian prosecutor concludes Israeli killing of journalist Shirin Abu Akle

The Prosecutor General of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) on Thursday released the results of his investigation into the death of journalist Shirin Abu Akleh, indicating that he was deliberately killed by Israeli troops. “The investigation has shown that the attacks on Shirin Abu Aklah and journalists close to him were targeted,” said Prosecutor Akram al-Khatib. “The only shot fired by the occupying forces was for killing,” he said at a news conference in Ramallah, on the West Bank.

Prosecutors said the bullet, which killed Abu Aklehi in Janin on May 11, “had the ability to penetrate and the characteristics of a bullet used by a sniper,” according to the official Palestinian news agency. Wafa.

The prosecution’s report found that the journalist had been shot in the head while trying to reach a safe place and that the continuation of the shooting after the first shot prevented other colleagues from helping or approaching him. This, he stressed, reveals the intent to kill Israeli soldiers. He also stressed that there were no armed clashes between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants at the time of Abu Aklah’s death, making the incident a war crime.

The new Secretary-General of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO), Hussein al-Sheikh, tweeted that the Attorney General’s report had already been submitted to the U.S. government and a copy would also be provided to Al-Channel. Yazira. , For whom Akle worked.

The announcement comes days after the PNA handed over information about Abu Aklehi’s death to the International Criminal Court to add to the current investigation into alleged war crimes committed by Israeli and Palestinian militant groups since 2014.

The results of the investigation revealed by the prosecution coincide with the initial accusation of both Palestinian leaders and eyewitnesses, a version that is also supported by independent analysts.

Israel, for its part, initially blamed Palestinian militias for shooting an Al Jazeera veteran reporter, but later an army spokesman and government officials said they had no final information on who killed him without a bullet.
