Dozens of people were killed in an Israeli attack on a UN school in Gaza

Israeli shelling killed dozens of Palestinians who were taking refuge at a Gaza school in Al Jabalia camp, which is administered by the United Nations Palestine Refugee Agency (UNRWA).

The agency’s commissioner general, Philippe Lazzarin, said they had received “horrific images and records of dozens of dead and injured people” at a school where thousands of displaced people from the Gaza Strip are taking refuge.

Lazzarini condemned in X that ‚Äúthese types of attacks cannot be normalized, they must be stopped. He cannot wait for a humanitarian ceasefire.” Israeli army spokesman Lt. Col. Peter Lerner told the BBC that they “cannot confirm” that the incident was Israel’s responsibility. Lerner added that they saw “the same pictures that you have on social media, we are looking into that.”

The attack, which according to the Palestinian news agency WAFA also injured a significant number, took place on the al-Fajura school. Dozens of people, mostly children and women, were killed in the attack on an Indonesian hospital in Gaza.

The school is located in the Al Jabalia refugee camp, whose immediate evacuation was requested by the Israeli army this Saturday. According to EFE, the Israel Defense Forces offered its residents a window of several hours to leave this and two other areas of Gaza City, north of the Strip.

Al Fajura was already the target of an Israeli attack on the 4th of this month, during which a dozen people were killed and fifty were injured.

Jordan’s foreign ministry condemned the attack, calling it “a continuation of horrific war crimes” by Israel. Jordan also assured that “it is a clear violation of international law when there is no common international position to stop the humanitarian disaster and the suffering they cause,” reports the Israeli newspaper Haaretz.
