Several people died at the hands of a gunman who opened fire in a university hospital classroom Erasmus Medical Center and a nearby apartment in the Dutch city of Rotterdam.
The Dutch police announced through the social network X (formerly Twitter) that a 32-year-old resident has been arrested and they rule out the possibility of a second assailant.
Police added that they will not release any further information until the families of the victims have been notified.
In addition to the shooting, fires broke out at both locations, but few details are currently known about what happened or how many victims were killed or injured at each location.
Some videos posted on social media show students being evacuated from the university hospital and heavily armed agents arriving at the scene. Police, via X, have asked for the cooperation of anyone who took pictures of the shooting, who can upload them to the force’s website.
