Navalny says he will be sent to the prison cell of the ‘strictest regime’

Jailed Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny said Wednesday he would be moved to a maximum security cell for a year, a day after a court rejected his appeal against a 19-year prison sentence.

Last month, Navalny’s sentence was more than doubled from nine to 19 years, and the court decided to send him to an even stricter “special regime” colony rather than remain in his maximum security prison current.

A. Navalnas, 47, whose appearance changed significantly while behind bars, has been locked up in solitary confinement (ŠIZO) 20 times in recent months due to various formal violations of the order.

“Yesterday, immediately after my appeal was heard, I was taken to the commission and told that due to my incorrigibility, I will be transferred to the EPKT for a period of 12 months,” he said. -he wrote on social networks, referring to the cells which are supposed to contain the most severe prison conditions.

“This is the harshest punishment possible in any type of colony,” he said.

According to the Meduza portal, the EPKT is a prison within a prison, where people are imprisoned for persistent violations of the prison regime.
