After the Belgorod raids, Belgium demands an explanation from Ukraine

Belgium is demanding an explanation from Ukraine over reports that Belgian-made weapons were used in Russia by anti-Kremlin fighters, Prime Minister Alexander De Croo said on Monday.

“We are asking the Ukrainians to explain the situation,” De Croo told Belgian public radio. – The rule is strict and clear; Our weapons supplied to Ukraine are for defensive purposes, to (defend) the territory of Ukraine.”

The comments of A. De Croo were a reaction to a report by the American newspaper “The Washington Post” that Western weapons were being used in the Russian region of Belgorod.

Pro-Ukrainian groups of Russian fighters, ultra-nationalist anti-Kremlin, have staged high-profile incursions into Russia from Ukrainian territory.

The Washington Post quoted US intelligence sources as saying four armored vehicles supplied to Ukraine by the United States and Poland were used in last month’s attack.
The militants also used rifles made in Belgium and the Czech Republic for the attack, the newspaper said.

NATO member Belgium is among many Western countries that have sent arms to Ukraine since February 2022, when the full-scale invasion of Russia began.
