Danish Prime Minister says she is not applying for NATO Secretary General post

Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has denied media reports that she is applying for the post of NATO Secretary General, reports TV2 Nyheder.

“I am the prime minister of Denmark and I hope to remain so,” the politician said, commenting on rumors that she could be appointed to a new post.

Information about Mr. Frederiksen’s possible appointment as NATO chief appeared before June 5. her planned visit to the United States, where she will meet President Joe Biden.

“I think we are going to discuss the Vilnius summit. I am not applying for any job other than my job as Prime Minister of Denmark,” she added.

These days, the publication “Politico” reported that Mr. Frederiksen could apply for the post of Secretary General of NATO. The publication notes that European diplomats were encouraged to think so by his invitation to the White House.

As we know, the current Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, who has held this position since October 1, 2014, should have finished his work last year. He was going to lead the central bank of his native Norway, but due to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, it was decided to extend his term until September 30, 2023.
