Three people were killed in a knife and gun attack in central Japan on Thursday, local media reported.
The incident reportedly took place in Nakano. Two police officers and a woman lost their lives there.
Japanese broadcaster NHK World reported that people were attacked by a man wearing a mask. Police first received information about the stabbed woman. When officers arrived at the scene, the alleged assailant opened fire on them. According to the information received, the suspect used a shotgun.
According to reports, the attacker then barricaded himself in a building surrounded by police forces. Residents were asked to stay at home.
Nakano City is located in Nagano Prefecture on the main island of Honshu.
