Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived unannounced in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia), where the Arab League summit will be held.
“I am starting my very first visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to strengthen bilateral relations and Ukraine’s ties with the Arab world,” the president tweeted.
He wrote that he would discuss “political prisoners in Crimea and temporarily occupied territories, the return of our people, the peace formula and energy cooperation.”
Saudi Arabia “plays an important role, and we are ready to raise our cooperation to a new level”, continued V. Zelensky.
Al Arabiya news channel reported that he landed in Jeddah on Friday.
According to diplomats, King Salman of Saudi Arabia has invited V. Zelenskiy to be the guest of honor at the league’s annual summit.
The Gulf states generally maintain good relations with Russia and take a neutral stance in the Ukrainian war. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad will also attend this summit.
