A man stood trial on Wednesday in connection with an alleged badger hunt.

Jason Lee Kennedy 34 and Ross Road, Enniskillen faces a total of 36 charges. The court heard that the charges consisted of six counts of causing unnecessary suffering to animals and animal fighting or attempting to cause animal fighting; be present at animal fights and have photos or videos of animal fights.

The suspect also faces four counts of providing animal fighting images; Killing or injuring wildlife and possessing wildlife. The crime is believed to have taken place on 28 June and 4 July 2022. Causing unnecessary suffering affects three cases in badgers and three cases in cats.

According to the indictment, he intentionally killed a badger, and the intentional wounds also include badgers. After all, he would have had three live badgers and one dead badger.

A police officer told Enniskillen Magistrates’ Court that all the charges could be linked. Dressed in jeans and a gray hoodie, Kennedy spoke only to confirm that he understood the allegations.

No further details about the circumstances of the case were disclosed during the brief hearing.

In a statement on March 7, the PSNI said the arrest was related to a possible connection to badger hunting and prosecution of other animals under the Animal Welfare Act (NI) 2011.

District Judge Alana McSorley remanded Kennedy on bail in court on Wednesday, ordering him to not own animals or engage in any hunting-related activities and requiring him to report to police four days a week.

The case will come up again next month.
