The Russian army affirmed this Wednesday (03.01.2023) that it shot down or put out of service ten Ukrainian drones that were part of a “massive” attack attempt against facilities in the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea, illegally annexed by Russia, after a similar incursion the day before with those artifacts in Russian territory.
“A massive drone attack attempt by the Kiev regime (sic) on facilities in the Crimean peninsula has been thwarted,” the Russian Defense Ministry announced in a statement. According to this office of the Russian regime, the anti-aircraft defense shot down six Ukrainian attack drones and another four were disabled by electronic means.
“There were no casualties or material damage on the ground,” said Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Lieutenant General Igor Konashenkov. Previously, Ukrainian media reported that several explosions occurred on Tuesday night in the Crimean peninsula and also in the Russian region of Krasnodar, near the Yeisk city airfield.
No attack on Russian territory, says Ukraine
Regarding this information, the mayor of Yeisk, Roman Bublik, denied that an attack had taken place and assured that the explosions that were heard corresponded to military exercises that were taking place in the area. “Keep calm. I always inform you about everything that happens in the Yeisk region, so I ask you not to fall for provocations,” Bublik wrote on Telegram.
It is not the first time that Crimea, whose illegal annexation to Russia will be 9 years old on March 18, has been attacked by drones. Pilotless aircraft had already targeted the port of Sevastopol in December. In October, the target was a power plant and in August, the General Staff of the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
In this regard, the advisor to the Ukrainian Presidency, Mykhailo Podolyak, stated this day that his country “does not carry out attacks against Russian territory, but wages a defensive war with the aim of liberating all its territories.”
