Russia launched dozens of missiles in its latest massive attack on Ukraine

Russia launched a total of 36 air and sea-launched cruise missiles in the past few hours, and Ukrainian defenses managed to shoot down 16 of them, the Ukrainian military said on Thursday.

“On the night of February 15-16, the Russian occupation forces launched a large-scale missile attack on critical infrastructure facilities of Ukraine,” the press service of the Ukrainian Air Force Command said.

The Russians used twelve Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles launched from two Tu-95MS strategic bombers over the Caspian Sea.

Another eight caliber cruise missiles were fired into the Black Sea from a frigate and 12 Kh-22 cruise missiles from six long-range bombers near the Russian city of Kursk, about 200 kilometers from the Ukrainian border.

In addition, two Kh-59 guided missiles were fired from two Su-35 tactical fighter jets in Melitopol while they were flying over the Zaporizhia region of Ukraine.

In turn, units of the Ukrainian Air Force shot down 14 Kh-101/Kh-555 and Kalibr cruise missiles and two Kh-59 air-guided missiles.

“Unfortunately, some Kh-22 cruise missiles hit targets and hit critical infrastructure facilities. At the moment, we don’t have any weapons capable of shooting down these types of missiles,” the Ukrainian army said.

Authorities in Kyiv earlier confirmed that Russian forces attacked several regions of Ukraine overnight with drones and strategic aviation, hitting critical infrastructure in the Lviv region, as well as targets in the west, north and center of the country.

“Another Russian missile attack. Unmanned aerial vehicles and missiles were launched at night. Unfortunately, there are impacts in the north and west of Ukraine, as well as in the Dnipropetrovsk and Kirovograd regions,” wrote Andriy Yermak, head of the administration of the President of Ukraine, on his Telegram account. The spokeswoman of the Southern Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Natalya Gumenyuk, noted that Russia launched a mixed attack using strategic aviation and drones and launched at least eight caliber missiles in the south: six at the Mykolaiv region and two against it. of Jershon.
