Nine people were killed and several were injured in a shooting early Sunday morning in Monterey Park, near Los Angeles (California, USA), after the Chinese New Year celebration, reports the Associated Press agency.
The shooting happened on Garvey Avenue in Monterey Park, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. It is not yet known whether the shooter, a man about whom no other details are available, has been arrested.
The newspaper referred several witnesses Los Angeles Times They claim that the shooting happened at 10 pm local time, when hundreds of people had gathered before the clock. The gunner had a machine gun and several magazines with him so he could replace them as he ran out of ammunition.
A video posted on Twitter by the Los Angeles County Department of Transportation shows several ambulances treating the injured and evacuating them from the area. Dozens of agents have moved into the city of Monterey, about 10 miles from Los Angeles and home to about 60,000 Asians, according to local media.
