At the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the leader of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, was ordered by Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to assassinate Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Wall Street Journal quoted Ukrainian intelligence officials as saying Mr Putin ordered Mr Kadyrov to seize the government building in kyiv and kill the Ukrainian president. National Security and Defense Council Secretary Oleksijus Danilov said such a task is “a kind of bonus” for Mr Kadyrov.
The newspaper noted that Ukrainian intelligence said that three weeks before the full-scale invasion, Putin had invited Kadyrov to Moscow to “strategize”. in 2022 February 25 R. Kadyrov’s men entered Ukraine in three armored columns.
Ukrainian intelligence officials intercepted a video of a high-ranking occupier telling Kadyrov that “it’s exactly 00:00, we’re starting to move – over 1,500 people, the best special forces, the best fighters.” The first of three “Kadyrov” groups was almost completely destroyed on the outskirts of the Ukrainian capital. The other two groups were forced to regroup. They stopped the attack before reaching kyiv.
