European Union (EU) foreign policy chief Josep Borrell said on Friday that 1,100 troops had so far taken part in the EU military training mission in Ukraine.
Mr Borrell provided the number while visiting a training camp in Brzeg, Poland. According to him, this mission showed Europe’s willingness to support Ukraine, defending it from Russia.
EU foreign ministers agreed on this mission on 14 November. Several EU countries have already trained Ukrainian soldiers under separate agreements.
Total up to 15 thousand. soldiers will be trained in 20 Member States. The mission is funded by the EU. Mr. Borrell said it will cost 100 million. euros. In addition, 15 million EUR is intended for example for ammunition, as well as to cover the costs of each country.
The German Bundeswehr plans to participate in the mission through combat training and tactical exercises. In total, up to 5,000 Ukrainian soldiers could be trained in Germany.
