The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine announced this Friday that several Ukrainian embassies in Europe received a “bloody package” containing animal eyes.
Blood-soaked packages were sent to embassies in Italy, Hungary, the Netherlands, Poland, Croatia and Austria; Consulates General in Naples (Italy) and Krakow (Poland); and at the Consulate in Brno (Czech Republic), According to the statement from the spokesman of the Ministry, Oleg Nikolenko.
“We have reason to believe that there is a well-planned campaign of terror and intimidation against Ukrainian embassies and consulates. They cannot stop us on the diplomatic front of Ukraine, they are trying to intimidate us”, said Minister Dimitro Kuleba.
Nikolenko noted that they are “learning the meaning of this message.” In addition, he said that Minister Dmytro Kuleba ordered all embassies and consulates to move to an enhanced level of security.
The ministry emphasizes that “the Ukrainian side cooperates with the law enforcement agencies of foreign states to investigate all cases of threats, identify the persons involved and punish them.”
The developments come after six letter bombs were sent this week to various sites in Spain, including the Ukrainian embassy and the US embassy.
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine also noted that the Ukrainian embassy in Kazakhstan received a bomb threat this week. In turn, the US embassy received a letter from a European country with an article criticizing Ukraine. The entrance to the ambassador’s house in the Vatican was also damaged.
“We call on foreign governments to ensure maximum protection of Ukrainian diplomatic institutions in accordance with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations,” the statement said. All embassies and consulates of Ukraine have moved to a heightened level of security.
