Russia’s Baltic Fleet plans to hold numerous large-scale military exercises, the Interfax news agency reported on Saturday, citing its press service.
“During the winter training period, dozens of large-scale maneuvers of various levels are planned on the training grounds of the Baltic Fleet, in which armored and motorized rifle units, air defense units, radio, artillery and reconnaissance, as well as the air forces of the fleet will participate,” the press service said.
The Baltic Fleet is based in the Russian enclave of Kaliningrad. The year of training in the armed forces begins on December 1.
The Baltic Fleet has been part of the largest military unit since 2016, when the 11th Army Corps was formed. It was only recently that it became known that this corps had been reinforced with an additional motorized rifle division.
The Russian military based this update on strong NATO activity on Russia’s western borders.
Kaliningrad is surrounded by Poland and Lithuania, EU countries, it is more than 1000 km from Moscow, but only about 500 km from Berlin.
