The Belarusian tennis star was kicked out – she was not allowed to participate in the prestigious tournament

Belarusian tennis star Viktoria Azarenka (WTA 20) was due to play this week at the prestigious National Bank Open in Toronto, where she already knew her first opponent, but her match against Switzerland’s Belinda Bencic was canceled.

The reason is that the 33-year-old Belarusian did not receive a Canadian visa.

The winner of two Grand Slam tournaments announced this news herself on the social network.

“I wanted to let you know that I unfortunately have to withdraw from the Toronto tournament because my visa application was rejected. It’s very disappointing. Very sad to miss one of my favorite tournaments. “I have always loved playing in Canada , where the fans are great and I have lots of friends,” she said.

The former world No. 1 has had more than one successful tour in her career in Toronto: she even reached the semi-finals three times.

Vikas, like other Russian and Belarusian tennis players, was not allowed to compete at Wimbledon this year due to their countries’ military invasion of Ukraine.

Russians and Belarusians are not banned from participating in other tournaments, but only on the condition that they do not represent their home country, but play as neutral athletes.

The same V. Azarenka has just run on the courts of Washington, USA, and her next projects include Cincinnati, also in the USA, where the next Masters tournament will be held.
