Southampton recall loanee from St Mirren after six matches

SAINTS have recalled defender Thierry Small from his second loan spell at Scottish Premier League club St Mirren.

The 19-year-old returns to the club after six appearances north of the border and 15 appearances last season.

Small became Everton’s youngest ever player when Carlo Ancelotti made his debut for them in January 2021, aged 16.

He then moved to Saints to turn professional later that summer, a move that was widely publicized and brought with it a compensation fee for the Toffees. He turns twenty this year.

Small made his Saints debut in January 2022 but was caught at half-time in the win over Coventry City and has not featured since.

A club statement said: “Having spent pre-season training with the under-21s before leaving, the left-back will return to Staplewood and gain further experience of senior football in the first half of the season.”
