Southampton defender out of action with injury requiring surgery

SAINTS defender Romain Perrault is out of action for the rest of the season with an injury against AFC Bournemouth.

The Frenchman lasted just 36 minutes after losing possession in a 1-0 home loss to the Cherries on Thursday.

Perro, who will remain at the Saints until 2025, could potentially leave the club in the summer if relegated to the Championship.

The 26-year-old has made 36 appearances in all competitions for Saints this season, adding to his 23rd season last season after a summer move from French club Stade Brest.

Manager Rubén Selles was brief on his status, saying: “He will have surgery on Thursday and will be out for the rest of the season. We hope he’s ready for preseason.”

Perro missed the preseason this season with a broken leg that forced the defender to spend the summer in rehab.

It’s unclear how the injury could affect his ability to move to another club during the summer transfer window.
