Allianz Football League Division One: Armagh 0-13 Donegal 0-10

Armagh made a big move to secure Division One status with a hard-fought three-point win over Donegal at the Box-It Athletic Grounds on Saturday night.

A crowd of 12,582 gathered at the Armagh City venue for a hard-fought Division One battle that saw the hosts claim a Division Two victory to take five points from five games played.

Donegal had plenty of possession early on, but Armagh’s first-half tackling was excellent.

The first two goals of the night came from the two keepers, with Ethan Rafferty converting a minute from a free just after Shaun Patton had unleashed a 45 for Donegal.

Conor O’Donnell and Oisin Gallen (free transfer) were Donegal’s only other first half goalscorers.

Armagh, on the other hand, looked much sharper in attack with Aidan Forker, Stefan Campbell and Andrew Murnin (two) while Rian O’Neill converted two free kicks for his side.

The introduction of Hugh McFadden made a big difference for Donegal as he scored two runs (one run) and was beaten for Gallen’s second free.

Armagh looked to have weathered the storm but back-to-back points from Jamie Brennan and Jamie McGee late in the game left just a point.

However, the impressive Jarly Óg Burns showed great composure late on and won a late walk in a superb solo run before pulling off a stunning run to earn an important win for Orchard County.

Armagh Scorers: Rian O’Neill 0-5 (0-4s, 0-1 45), Andrew Murnin 0-3 (0-1m), Ethan Rafferty 0-1 (0-1f), Aidan Forker 0-1, Stefan Campbell 0-1, Rory Grugan 0-1 (0-1f), Jarly Og Burns 0-1.

Donegal Goals: Shaun Patton 0-2 (0-1f, 0-1 45), Oisin Gallen 0-2 (0-2f), Hugh McFadden 0-2 (0-1M), Conor O’Donnell 0-1, Jason McGee 0-1, Jamie Brennan 0-1, Peadar Mogan 0-1.
