The last women’s Spanish Super Cup played last Sunday has caused controversy throughout the football world, since no leader of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) was present to present the prizes and medals to the participating teams.
In the match played at the Romano José Fouto Stadium in Mérida, the women’s Barcelona defeated Real Sociedad by three goals to nil, through the annotations of Aitana Bonmati (13′ and 47′) and Asisat Oshoala (90+7′), keeping the trophy.
The controversy arose when, at the time of the awarding of the medals and the prizes of the meeting, since the president of the RFEF was not present, Luis Rubialesnor another leader who crowned the champions, so they had to go to an inn located next to the field and get their respective medals.
The networks exploded due to this fact, since they compared the men’s Spanish Super Cup held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where Rubiales was presenting the medals to the champions and runners-up.

question of protocol
The RFEF issued a statement in this regard, stating: “In accordance with the RFEF award protocols, and taking into account both the high number of institutional representation, as well as the infrastructures for access to the box from the stadium grass, the The Protocol department decided to activate the delivery ceremony in the box in the same way that it is carried out in the Copa del Rey: delivery of the Cup to the captain of the champion team and delivery of medals to the winning team on the pitch/locker room”.
The Association of Spanish Soccer Players (AFE) criticized the Royal Spanish Soccer Federation, stating that the players from both teams were belittled.
From Barcelona they lowered the profile of the controversy, both their coach and the players, the latter indicated that it was nothing different from what had been happening, from what they are used to.
Although from Spain they emphasize that the controversy can occur as a result of the Barcelona players (the majority) refusing to play for the Spanish team. Barcelona coach Jonatan Giráldez pointed out that “I don’t think it was because of that. All of us who were there lived in an atmosphere of normality.”
