Chile lost to Montenegro and says goodbye to the Handball World Cup in the first round

The Chilean National Team fell 35-33 against Montenegro and was eliminated in the first round of the 2023 Handball World Cup, which is being played in Poland and Sweden.

Those led by Aitor Etxaburu were obliged to win if they wanted to reach the second phase of the tournament. This, after the fall in the debut against Iran by 24-25 and on the second date against Spain by 34-26, which added to the new defeat left the Chilean cast without chances.

The Balkans came to be three goals above, taking advantage of the correct match of their figure, Grbovic; but the Chilean Erwin Fleuchtmann woke up to shorten the lead. Despite the expulsion of the Montenegrin striker, each against the European team was a blow to the national team.

Despite the goals from Fleuchtmann and the very correct game from Esteban Salinas, the difference in favor of Montenegro never fell below two goals and ended with a 35-33 in favor of the Balkans. With this result, Chile says goodbye to the tournament with three consecutive defeats.
