SAINTS has completed the transfer of midfielder Carlos Alcaraz from Racing Club, signing the youngster to a four and a half year contract.
Alcaraz, 20, will be their second signing this month after Croatian winger Mislav Orsic joined last week.
An emerging talent in South America, the creative Alcaraz has made a name for himself in his native Argentina over the past three years.
He made his debut for Racing Club in January 2020 at the age of 17 and quickly established himself as a regular with a total of 83 appearances for the team.
On signing with the club, Alcaraz said: “I am very happy to be part of this club. I knew this was going to be a new challenge for me and my career, so I wanted to take it on because I knew I would be playing for a great club.
“I can’t wait to start training and playing and I’m ready to give 100 percent for this club and this shirt. I’m looking forward to getting to know all my teammates and I’m ready to give it my all.”
Alcaraz was a key part of the team that finished second in last year’s Primera División, only two points behind Boca Juniors before scoring the winning goal in the subsequent Trofeo de Campeones final between the teams – the culmination of his 12 goals went to the racing club. registered.
Saints manager Nathan Jones added: “Charlie’s arrival is another huge plus for us. There’s been a lot of interest in Europe so it’s great to have him and we did it quite early this month.
“He will give us a very interesting option and bring in a little more creativity, which will be a real advantage for us.
“I know how determined he is to step forward and help us, so we look forward to working with him and making sure he has all the support he needs to settle down here.”
Racing have announced that the Saints are paying just over £12m for the 20-year-old, with the South American club keeping a 15% commission on sales.
