The Attorney General puts Dolores Delgado in the top category of the race

The State Attorney General, Álvaro Ortiz, will propose the appointment of his predecessor, Dolores Delgado, as the Prosecutor of the Robedi Chamber of the Supreme Court, Military Chamber, according to a statement from the institute. This rank implies his promotion to the highest category of the prosecutor’s career. Delgado was one of twenty candidates for the position, and was selected after he stepped down as state attorney general last July due to health reasons. His current assignment is the National High Court, where he spent the last 25 years before being appointed Attorney General.

Ortiz proposed his appointment even though Delgado won the support of only five of the 12 members of the Fiscal Council held this Thursday, which lasted more than ten hours in morning and afternoon sessions. This advisory body of the Public Ministry, whose reports are not mandatory, consists of three ex officio members – the Prosecutor General; Maria Angeles Sanchez Conde, Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court; and the head of the Fiscal Inspectorate, Maria Antonia Sanz Gaite – and nine representatives of associations: six from the Conservative Association of Prosecutors (AF); two from the Progressive Union of Prosecutors (UPF), to which Delgado and Ortiz belonged; and one from the Professional and Independent Association of Prosecutors (APIF).

Only three ex officio members and two UPF members supported Delgado’s appointment. The APIF representative did not participate in the vote, as his wife, prosecutor Teresa Gálvez, was running for the same position.

The head of the anti-corruption prosecution was the other most important position at stake, and Ortiz chose to succeed conservative Alejandro Luzon. Lieutenant Prosecutor Belen Suarez, his “number two” and also a conservative, also chose the position. Suarez also appeared before the Prosecutor of the Military Chamber of the Supreme Court.

One who will not continue as deputy prosecutor of the National Supreme Court, despite being re-elected, is conservative Miguel Ángel Carballo, a member of the AF. Garcia will offer the “number two” position of the specialized court’s prosecutor to Marta Dienz Gil, who left Pontevedra’s labor accident prosecutor’s office to join the general technical secretariat headed by the current attorney general during Delgado’s mandate.

The Prosecutor General made 11 more proposals for the appointment. According to the Public Ministry, the Fiscal Inspector of the Fiscal Inspection will be Juan José García Criado, who entered the fiscal career in 1989 and currently works in the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Córdoba, where he was appointed in 1993.

The High Prosecutor’s Offices of the Canary Islands and La Rioja have also been renewed, with the appointment of Maria Farnes and Santiago Heraiz respectively. Also the headquarters of the Provincial Prosecutor’s Offices of Granada (Pedro Javier Jimenez Lafuente), Malaga (Juan Bautista Calvo-Rubio Burgo), Huesca (Juan Baratec Ibáñez) and Sabadell (Diego Miranda). Maria Martini-Forero Bravo), Granollers (Gloria García Palomo) and Ferrol (Miguel Armenteros Leon).
