The new president of the European PP lowers the tone of the far right and Feio’s deals with Vox.

When Donald Tusk was asked about the Castilla and Leon rule agreements between the popular party and the Vox, he said it was a “capitulation” and that hopefully it was an “incident” and not a “trend”. Three months later, when the Polish Tusk no longer heads the main European political family and was replaced by the Bavarian Manfred Weber, the answer is quite different.

He is so different that Weber not only does not mention Vox in his response, but also asks the Prime Minister, Pedro Sanchez, to answer for his investment allies.

Do you still think that the pacts with Vox are a capitulation, as your predecessor said, if the position of the European People’s Party changes? “The criterion for future cooperation with all parties at the European level is respect for the prospect of the rule of law. “As for Spain,” Weber replies, “let me emphasize that Sanchez has a few questions to answer.” He works with separatist movements that do not respect the country’s constitution. This is also a debate in Spain. ”

Of course, Weber argued that the European PP was a “party of the rule of law” and cited the example of Victor Orban’s Fidesz and Tusk’s march in Poland to PiS, Poland’s main ally, Vox: “I am. I am very proud that today PPE is a party to the rule of law. We, Donald Tusk and I as the group leader [en el Parlamento Europeo]We closed the head of Victor Orban. And you have to look at Romania, Croatia, the Baltic countries, Lithuania, Latvia, we rule, and also the Czech Republic, where we expel the corrupt. And in Slovakia we now have Eduard Heger as Prime Minister who wants to join the EPP family. In Poland, Donald Tusk is the real face of the opposition, not the Socialists and Liberals in Central and Eastern Europe. We do this as an EPP and I’m proud of that. There is no arguing that we can continue like this. It is also a criterion for future co-operation at European level with all parties to safeguard this perspective on the rule of law. ”

But on March 10, when Tusk was still president of the European People’s Party, he very clearly rejected the PP pact with Vox Castilla and Leon to form a coalition government in Leon. The former president of the Council of Europe assured that the agreement was a “capitulation” and hoped that it was an “accident” and not a “trend”. Tusk made the announcement after a meeting of the organization’s European leaders ahead of the EU summit in Versailles.

“It was a sad surprise for me. “Cassado, our colleague, took part in the meeting, resigned,” Tusk said. “Extreme right.”

“We hope this is just an incident or an accident and not a trend,” Tusk said of the Castilla-Leon agreement. “We have to fight those desires, it means capitulation.”

The French and German right-wingers have traditionally rejected treaties with the far right. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel was the champion of this position during her term. He renounced his party, which led one of the regions of Germany, because to do so they had to agree on an alternative to Germany. This government, in the land of Thuringia, fell into the hands of the German left-wing Die Linke.

However, Weber’s speech now moves away from Tusk’s speech at a time when his allies in France and Italy are at a low electoral level and when there is competition in the Conservative zone between various far-right parties. The European PP has already joined Silvio Berlusconi in its ranks since the collapse of Italian Christian democracy.

Is Matteo Salvini closer to the EPP now that Forza Italia is low and Fratelli d’Italia, Vox’s allies, are beating him to the right? And in France? What could happen to Marine Le Pen, now that the Les Republicans are in robbery, they have changed the name of their party and a rival from the far right, such as Eric Zemor, has emerged?
