The PP condemns Bolaños for his words about Feijoo at the press conference of the Council of Ministers

The PP condemned the Minister of the Presidency, Relations with the Judiciary and Democratic Memory, Felix Bolanos, for his words before the electoral college about the plans of the opposition leader, Alberto Nunes Feijoo, if he manages to rule, in the election round. Press after the Council of Ministers on June 6.

According to the PP, Bolaños violated the principle of neutrality in his answer to the question about Feijo’s intention to repeal various laws. The PP claims that the president’s words are “electoral in nature” and contradict the “principle of equality in electoral matters” and the “neutrality of public authorities” in the run-up to general elections. . Thus, in its complaint, the main opposition party asserts that Bolaños violated Article 23 of the Constitution and Articles 8 and 50 of the LOREG.

In its letter, the PP claims that the presidential minister “used some of his interventions to refer to the main opposition party.” Feijo’s representatives say that Bolaños made “many critical assessments” and that he used “language more typical of a rally than of an institutional act”: “He used the opportunity to make a speech of electoral and political content and that he had nothing to do with the agreements made,” he continues. .

In a question specifically referred to by the PP, the journalist asked Bolaños about the statement that Alberto Núñez Feijo had on the same day reiterated his intention to abolish laws such as democratic memory, euthanasia or the trans law. “I think it’s clear that Mr. Feijoo’s political project is to undo, it’s destructive, it’s taking our country back, undoing the progress we’ve made with this legislature (…),” Bolaños replied.

The PP called “inadmissible” the “attacks and disqualification” of the Minister of the President and recalled that the Electoral Council twice referred to the Minister’s spokesperson and head of territorial policy, Isabel Rodríguez, for “identical facts” or the third vice-president of the government, Teresa Ribera, for “similar facts”. He also condemned that the JEC had been “ignored once again” by executive members.

The main opposition party addresses its letter by reiterating that it is “disturbing” and “obvious” that the government “continues to repeat the same disruptive behaviour”.

Government sources have already responded to this PP complaint, saying that Minister Bolaños intends to file charges “to demonstrate before the JEC that his words were only an objective and accurate description of Feijoo’s intentions”. The executive also laments that the document presented by the PP is a “cut and paste” of previous rules and cases, which has “no relation” to the existing one.

“What does PP want? That there are no answers to journalists’ questions? That Mr Fayo can speak his mind and that government ministers cannot? Does the PP want us to go back to appearances in the plasma way instead of press conferences?” begins the executive, which regrets that the main opposition party is using these claims “as a strategy” to “try to cause anxiety to its political opponents and thereby avoid Debate on his project”.
