The Council of Ministers approved the appointment of Octavio Rivera Atienza as the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Health, who will hold the position of Chief of the Technical Cabinet of the Deputy Secretary of Health from February 2021.
Born in Helin (Albacete) in 1969, he holds a law degree from the University of Valencia and has been an official of the Superior Corps of State Civil Administrators since 1997.
Before taking positions in the health sector, he developed his career mainly in management positions in various ministries and organizations. Thus, he was the head of the technical service of the Deputy Secretary of Territorial Policy and Public Functions (2018-2021); Advisor to the Secretary of State for Culture (2017-2018); and Deputy General Director of Human Resources and Economic and Estate Management at the National Markets and Competition Commission (2015-2017).
Before that, General Secretary of the Supreme Sports Council (2012-2015); Secretary General of the Spanish Food Safety and Nutrition Agency (2005-2012); Manager of the National Library of Spain (2005); and Deputy Secretary General of the Government Delegation in the Community of Valencia and Secretary General of the Government Delegation of Castilla-La Mancha (2000-2004).
