Joan-Carls Melich Sangra, National Essay Prize 2022

Joan-Carles Mèlich Sangrà has won the 2022 National Essay Prize. The jury singled out his works. The weakness of the world, which he described as “an insightful essay on the modern and daring world.” In this work, Joan-Karl Mellich “engages in a healthy critical exercise that reminds us that we are not the sole owners of the planet; A necessary thought in the present time, in which individualism is so asserted”, – emphasized the note issued by the Ministry of Culture, which is the awarding body of this award, which is awarded with 20,000 euros. In this way, he succeeds Ramon Andres, who achieved this last year for the consolation of philosophy and music.

Joan-Carles Mèlich Sangrà was born in Barcelona in 1961 and holds a PhD in Philosophy and Letters from the Autonomous University of Barcelona, ​​where he is full professor of Philosophy of Education. Among others, he has published such works as The philosophy of finitude (2002), The ethics of compassion (2010), The logic of cruelty (2014) and The wisdom of the unknown (2019).
