Man released under investigation after pedestrian in his 80s hit by van

A man was released under investigation after a van collided with a pensioner.

The victim, who was 80, sustained fatal injuries.

He was hit by a Ford Transit around 2pm on Sunday at Marine Parade West, Lee-on-the-Solent.

Police arrested a 48-year-old man from Gosport on suspicion of drunk driving.

He was released under investigation.

Hampshire Police DC Cate Paling said: “We are very grateful to everyone who has contacted us so far as part of our investigation.

“One thing we remain keen to do is consolidate the construction truck’s journey up to the accident.

“If you see a gray Transit van with 2018 license plates in front until 2pm, contact us.

“We are particularly eager to hear from anyone who has CCTV footage outside their home or business, or footage from security cameras.”
