A 60-year-old woman was beaten by a man who was taking her dog for a morning walk.
She was attacked by a man on Passfield Avenue in Eastleigh at 9:54 am on Saturday.
After beating her, he fled to downtown Eastleigh.
Police confirmed that the woman was not seriously injured.
A 43-year-old man from Southampton was arrested on suspicion of assault.
He has been released but is still under investigation.
Hampshire police are now interviewing witnesses to the attack.
A police spokesman said: “We are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or who saw a man acting strangely on Passfield Avenue and in the Fleming Park area during the incident to report it.
“We are also very interested in the testimony of two witnesses who stopped to help the victim after the attack.
“Maybe you were there and saw what happened?
The suspect is described as being white, between the ages of 30 and 40, about 1.80m tall and with long gray hair.
He was wearing black and gray trousers, black sneakers, and a gray blanket over his shoulders.
