Police are treating a fire at a property in Co Down as “arson with intent to endanger life”.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the fire in the Castleview area of Gilford just after 8.15pm on Friday 18 November.

Detective Constable Jennings said: “Police attended the address along with colleagues from Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service. The fire was confirmed to have started outside the property and caused damage to the front door, hallway and kitchen.

“We assume the ignition was intentional and are therefore investigating arson with intent to endanger lives.

“Fortunately, the occupant of the building was not at home at the time and our fellow firefighters were able to extinguish the fire before it spread further.

“We are asking anyone who was in the area at the time of the fire or witnessed suspicious activity to contact us on 101 quoting reference 1738 dated 11/18/22.”
