As the ministry states, pirated displays “create additional legal and reputational risks.”
The Cinema Fund refused to support the initiative, which allows foreign films to be shown in Russian cinemas without the permission of the copyright holder. This was reported by the publication “Izvestia”.
Earlier, the relevant proposal was voiced by Alexei Sinitsyn, First Deputy Chairman of the Economic Policy Committee of the Federation Council. According to him, a temporary mechanism needs to be developed for the official import and distribution of Hollywood films.
The agency said piracy of foreign films “creates additional legal and reputational risks”.
The document, signed by Fyodor Sosnov, the director-general of the Cinema Fund, also states that the legalization of pirating will increase the risk of content entering the big screens, which is contrary to the preservation and strengthening of traditional Russian spiritual and moral values.
It was previously reported that for the first time in Russia, a screen copy of the movie “Barbie” was shown in Tyumen.
