Maisie Smith and Max George stunned fans by announcing they were expecting a child.

The Wanted singer, 34, and actress, 21, met on Strictly Come Dancing and have been inseparable ever since, taking countless holidays and packing up their PDA.

Max and Maisie had previously sparked theories that they were engaged – speculation that went nowhere – and the couple caused confusion this week when they announced that Maisie was pregnant.

However, all was not as it seemed.

The couple took to Instagram on Monday, where they shared a photo of Maisie appearing to capture a pregnancy bump as Max looked on in awe, captioning it: “We have some very exciting news.”

But in the next photo, a heart emoji over Maisie’s “bump” was replaced with the words “just had the best 5 course meal of my life.”

Max and Maisie’s apparent prank caused confusion and some hurt among fans, with many taking to social media to give their opinion on the “thoughtless” prank.

One person tagged both Max and Maisie on Twitter, saying they “don’t think it’s something you guys shouldn’t joke about,” while another fan said they were going through a pregnancy loss and were having a hard time. couple to see. jokes about [being] pregnant.’

“Pregnancy jokes are not funny and never will be,” wrote another, and one desperately asked: “What the hell is Maisie Smith’s Instagram story.”

It comes after supermodel Heidi Klum was criticized for wearing a prosthetic belly and pretending to be expecting a child as an April Fool’s joke, with fans calling it “taffy” and hurtful.

Max and Maisie confirmed their romance last year and have previously been at the center of controversy over their 13-year age difference, which Maisie says “never crosses my mind”.
