Learn from the best: “I feel like I’m a fast learner. I can’t ask for more. Aliona is really great. She’s in charge and I’m the one who has to be constantly told what the hell I’m supposed to be. “do.”

Keep an open mind: “Wearing the infamous Strictly costumes was something I was nervous about. But I’ve decided to be open about it, albeit a bit hesitantly. I realize the sequins and sequins are a necessary evil.”

letting her hair down: “We’ll have a few drinks after the show and then go to our local bar. We do it every week now. It’s me and my family, and Aliona and her husband Vincent.”

On being friends: “Giovanni and I are like brother and sister, he sets my absolute tone. If you dance with someone every day [you just think], ‘No, I’m fine, thanks’. I have a beautiful boyfriend [former Corrie star Sean Ward] who is more beautiful!”

Losing Inhibitions: “I’m a pretty confident person, but the longer you compete, the more normal it becomes for you to wear it.”

Need a break: “I recently had a week off from EastEnders so I could just focus on dancing and it was great. I needed it. If Strictly was a marathon I would have hit my 17 mile mark where I would either cry in a bunch or push through and come out the other side. Now I feel like I’m over that hump.

Tension: “Everything tightened and pulled in a little more. I’ve lost about half a brick since I started working out.”

Up her game: “I thought I would enjoy it but had no idea it would be so much fun and I thought it would be hard work but I had no idea it would be at this level!

Every week it’s like a beginner. There is so much to think about and still act on. It was a shock to me how scary it is, it doesn’t get any easier than that.”

Katie Derham

Despite being at the bottom of the overall standings, Katie made it through to the finals

Age: 45

Exclusive partner: Anton du Beke

Occupation: BBC Proms and Radio 3 presenter

Her best result was for: 35/40 American Smooth from week nine

Going glam: “The outfits are always great, it’s just when you get to do the dance, and it was pretty mixed for me. You have this conversation at the beginning about things you’d rather discuss.”

People’s favorites are: “Anton is very popular. I laugh at his jokes. Anton has never done a show dance and he has years of choreography in his head so it should take about 15 minutes.”

proud man: “John [Vincent; restaurateur] I’ve known myself for 20 years so I can’t surprise him with much, but he’s very proud and very enthusiastic and leads the group behind the scenes. But he liked the rumba outfit. It didn’t come home, but my mother-in-law said I should buy it to show the grandchildren one day.”
