There is no shortage of raw materials for biofuels in Lithuania, as energy prices rise, it is necessary to supply as much as possible to energy producers, says the head of the Association Lithuanian Biomass Energy.
“For a long time, our state took a rather short-sighted approach to importing a sufficiently large share (biofuel – BNS) from Belarus. At one time, we imported up to 40%. The raw materials are needed from Belarus. During this time, we have not used our local raw material for this. As a result, the local supply chain has been shortened and a number of companies have gone bankrupt,” said Vilma Baturo, director of the association, during a press conference at the Seimas.
She pointed out that there are enough raw materials for biofuels in Lithuania, therefore, if the supply of this raw material from Belarus stops, it is necessary to ensure that a large part of it is produced in state and private forests in Lithuania.
“This (production of biofuel feedstocks – BNS) should take place even faster and on an even larger scale. Storage is needed, which must be done now so that the feedstock remains (dry – BNS),” said underlined V. Baturo.
Among other things, she pointed out that the operating life of the biofuel boilers built in 2009-2012 is coming to an end, they are to be renovated in 2025-2026, at which time the Ministry of Energy did not no program on how it will be done and what investments are planned.
“If we fail to modernize the boilers in time, the percentage of use of renewable resources will decrease even more, gas consumption will increase and prices for consumers will increase,” warned V. Baturo.
According to her, cities with hot water boilers should install cogeneration plants. According to her, an additional 200 megawatts could thus be installed: “This would make it possible to reduce electricity prices”.
According to V. Batur, a large amount of raw material for biofuels can be obtained by clearing areas near ESO lines and improvement ditches.
According to the head of the association, 75 percent of centralized thermal energy is produced from biofuel, a third of industrial enterprises produce energy from it.
