New Economy Minister’s Challenge in 2024: Cut the Deficit and Avoid Another Hit of Inflation

[empresas y sindicatos] And, of course, to all Spanish men and women.” An analysis of this address by Nadia Calvino at the transfer of power this Friday serves to understand the path of the new Minister of Economy, Trade and Business.

The economic policy decided by the Corps and the rest of the government officials for that matter – María Jesús Montero (Treasury), Teresa Ribera (Energy), Yolanda Díaz (Labor), José Luis Escriva (Digital)… – must incorporate reductions. Deficit to 3% and debt (as required by new EU taxes) by avoiding another inflationary blow to households and companies (i.e. activity in general) and maintaining strategic investments in green transition and digital.
