BBVA announced “access issues” on its website and app and indicated that technical teams are working to restore service “as soon as possible”. Throughout the day, several BBVA customers reported various difficulties when it comes to accessing their accounts from the app and website.
In a post on its Twitter account, the bank indicated that the ATMs were operational and apologized for any inconvenience caused by the incident. Bank sources ruled out that the incident was the result of a cyber attack and assured that the problem arose from a system update.
The bank’s application offers its users the opportunity to play a mini-game with a bicycle that avoids obstacles to ease the wait until the system can be used normally again.
