survey | Do you agree with the pension reform proposal presented by the government?
The government has already agreed on the pension reform. The two forces of the progressive coalition closed late Thursday on a joint proposal, which has the approval of Brussels and which was presented to unions and employers.
The reform proposed by Minister José Luis Escriva and also supported by Unidas Podemos – you can find out the keys here – is based on a large boost to the system’s income, mainly through contributions to the highest salaries, which are now greatly exempted in Spain. In addition, it was decided to offer an optional calculation period, which allows workers to choose contributions from the last 25 years – as before – or the last 29 years, excluding the two worst. Minimum pensions have also been improved and a number of measures targeted at women to reduce the gender gap in retirement income. Accordingly, according to the details known by elDiario.es, reductions are excluded and social protection is extended. The sustainability of the system will be assessed by AIReF every three years through a report, an element based on Brussels’ support for the agreement.
The measures generally have the approval of unions, which are eager to discuss several more proposals, to continue negotiations on some details, and the CEOE has faced a frontal refusal of employers, who have even threatened to reduce wage increases.
But we want to know what you think. That’s why we invite you to participate in this survey: move the speedometer to the point that best represents it and explain your answer in the comments.
